‘Leisure Activities’ is the new single from Italia 90. It’s a driving track pushed forward by relentless drums and semi-spoken vocals, with juxtaposing textures coming from the airy synth textures that underpin everything. Of course, in classic Italia 90 fashion, everything kicks off halfway through, with dissonant, angular guitars cutting through the comparatively serene introduction. They describe the track as “a response to the tendency of countless modern bands who identify as, or are described as political, when their commentary amounts to little more than mundane descriptions of British life or sneering caricatures of an idle working class entirely of their invention.” The band’s debut album drops in January and is an uncompromising, focused set of genuinely politically driven post-punk tracks that are both brand new and taken from their earliest days. -Dan Peeke.
